The Future of This Site

the futureLast night, as I tried to fall asleep but couldn’t, I thought about this site. I thought about why I started it and what I’m doing with it now. I also thought about what I should do with it in the future.

The original purpose of this site was to provide instructions on how to do various things to Build A Niche Store sites (aka BANS). At the time, I was creating BANS sites and found that they could be customized, but that few people knew how to do so. My early posts are all about modifying BANS sites.

Then, the rug was pulled out from under BANS sites, and they died. Not completely, since I know some people held onto their BANS sites and have recently found that new life has been breathed into them, but most of us let our domains expire or sold them. I am in the latter group. My BANS sites are long gone.

Today, I am building sites on WordPress (aka WP), and love that platform. I have started an AliExpress WooCommerce website among other things.  It is so easy to do just about anything you want with WP. If you can’t do it on your own, chances are someone has created a plugin to do whatever it is you want to do. Some are free, some are paid, but the choices of plugins is staggering.

Over time, I stopped posting what I consider helpful posts to this site. There was no need for me to provide instructions anymore, since modifying WP is as simple as installing and activating a plugin. BANS, on the other hand, required mucking around in the code, which was much more challenging.

So, here I am, in 2011, pondering this site. Never have I considered giving it up, but I’ve sometimes wondered why I am keeping it, since I am not really doing anything with it. Which led to my thoughts last night. What to do with the site now that instructions are no longer needed (at least, not the type of instructions I was initially writing for this site)?

My conclusion is thus: I am going to start writing posts about plugins. I’ve become a bit of a plugin junkie – I love ‘em! On one forum I’m actually known as the Plugin Queen because I almost always am able to suggest a plugin to do whatever someone is wanting. It is time for me to share my knowledge about plugins, so you can decide which of them will help you with your own sites.

Also, I may, from time to time, provide you with information that I know will be helpful to you in your own site-building endeavors, or little tricks about WordPress that you might not know. But, my focus will be on plugins, at least for now.

What plugins do you use that you think people ought to know about? I don’t mean the typical ones like All In One SEO Pack, but the ones you stumbled across that are fairly unknown and just can’t live without. Please share below in the comments.
